Следующие таблицы и диаграммы взяты из годового отчета детского суда округа Нью-Йорк.

При подготовке этого отчета судебные чиновники активно сотрудничали с Комитетом по уголовным судам Общества по организации благотворительности. С одобрения Фрэнка Смита, главного клерка Суда особых сессий, и под руководством Лоуренса Вейллера, секретаря Комитета, отчет был спланирован и составлен Джорджем Эверсоном, помощником секретаря Комитета.

Эта статистика, основанная на 9 019 делах и отражающая ювенальную преступность всего округа, позволяет нам сравнить некоторые особенности ювенальной преступности в центральной части Вест-Сайда с аналогичными условиями на более обширной территории. Цитируем отчет:

«Разграничение специальных производств и ювенальной преступности. — Следует отметить, что во всех статистических таблицах проводится различие между делами детей, вызванных в суд как ювенальные правонарушители, и детей, вызванных в рамках специальных производств. Пояснение этих терминов может помочь читателю. Общее различие, в широком смысле, совпадает с различием, которое обычно проводится между правонарушителями и детьми, нуждающимися в опеке. Специальные производства, однако, включают, помимо случаев ненадлежащей опеки, все случаи прогулов, неуправляемых и беспорядочных детей, а также случаи девочек, находящихся под угрозой морального разложения. Хотя последние рассматриваются Судом как нуждающиеся в заботе и защите со стороны государства, их проступки часто свидетельствуют о серьезной моральной распущенности, и Суд считает их одними из самых трудных для рассмотрения дел».

«Всякий раз, когда в случае ребенка, доставленного в Суд по обвинению в ювенальной преступности, в ходе судебного разбирательства выясняется, что ребенок находится без надлежащей опеки или в неблагоприятной среде, он или она могут быть признаны нуждающимися в заботе и защите со стороны государства, и тогда дело рассматривается в рамках специальных производств».

«Пробация. — За последние два года в этом Суде были достигнуты большие успехи в области пробации. Была установлена полная и хорошо организованная система записей о пробации, и Суд пользуется услугами двадцати трех офицеров пробации, которые посвящают все свое время и энергию помощи и исправлению детей, переданных под их надзор Судом. Результаты их расследований неоценимы для судьи при вынесении решения по делам, а их работа по оказанию помощи мальчикам и девочкам в том, чтобы стать хорошими гражданами, является большой услугой для общества. Единственный недостаток, который мы находим в нынешней системе, заключается в том, что период пробации в целом недостаточно длителен, чтобы позволить офицеру пробации выполнить свою работу с детьми, находящимися под его надзором, наилучшим образом. «Прогулы. — Отчет показывает, что в течение года в Суд было передано 62 дела о нарушении закона об обязательном образовании. Расследования дел офицерами пробации выявили пугающую распространенность прогулов среди ювенальных правонарушителей. Сотни дел зарегистрированы в комнатах пробации, показывая, что дети, находящиеся на пробации, были хроническими прогульщиками до того, как их доставили в Суд по обвинению в правонарушениях».
